How To Remove Your Gel Manicure At Home

Stop! If you’re thinking about picking off your gel overlays (we’ve all been there), we have a quick and healthy alternative that you can do from home. The Bio Sculpture gel removal system is a super easy alternative that won’t leave you with pickers-remorse!

Why shouldn’t I pick my nails?

Look, we know how tempting it can be, but it’s important to remember that you aren’t just peeling off the gel overlay. You’re also removing a layer of your nail! Not only does this mean rough, weak and easy to break nails, but it can also take a very long time to grow out the damage. So, we’ve put together a simple step by step tutorial on how to quickly and safely remove your gel manicure from the comfort of your own home.

Top Tip #1: Before you begin, pre-cut some strips of foil and squares of cotton wool to make the gel removal process quicker and easier.

To get started, gently buff the surface of the nails using the Bio Sculpture Power File until you’ve removed the top layer of gel and no shine remains.

Give the nails a quick dust using a nail brush, and then pop a drop of Almond Cuticle Oil onto each of your nails. This helps to keep the nail and surrounding skin nice and hydrated during removal.

No need to soak your whole hand in harsh acetone for what feels like hours on end! Simply take a piece of cotton wool, roughly the size of your nail, and soak it in our Bio Sculpture Gel Remover, made with an enriched formula to keep your nails in top condition. Place this over your buffed nail.

Next, take a piece of foil and tightly wrap it around your nail. The tighter you wrap it, the more effective the gel remover will be. Wrapping can be tricky, but here’s a quick demo:

One all the nails are wrapped, leave them to soak for 10 to 15 minutes.

Top Tip #2: If you’re impatient like us and you don’t want to sit still and wait during your soak off, pop some rubber gloves on over top of your foils so that you can still use your hands without risking any Gel Remover leaks!

Once your 10-15 minutes is up, you’re ready to remove your gel manicure! Unwrap the nails and check to see if the gel has been fully released from the nail plate. If it pops up from the nail like this:

Fantastic! If not, soak a fresh piece of cotton in Gel Remover; place it on the nail; re-wrap it; and wait for a further 5 minutes.

If you got the satisfying ‘pop’ moment, you now can apply a drop of Vitamin Dose onto each nail plate, and use the Bio Sculpture Manicure Tool to gently ease off any remaining gel.

Top Tip #3: The flat end of the Manicure Tool is perfect for gently removing gel from around the cuticle area. No need to add lots of pressure, the tool will do the work for you.

Now, all that’s left to do is to thoroughly cleanse the nails with your choice of product. We recommend using the ETHOS Kiwi Cuticle Scrub for added exfoliation, and Bio Sculpture Hand Wash to remove any remaining product on the hands or nails.

And that’s all there is to it! So what have we learned? It takes less than 20 minutes to easily and safely remove your gel manicure at home.
