Technician Spotlight - Anita Gell

Why did you decide to start a career in nails?

My husband owned a successful Barbers shop in a high-end department store. He was asked to set up a nail bar within the same store and within a month Gelaires Nail Bar was born. It was the first ever nail bar in Jersey.  At this time I was a P.A. on maternity leave with our daughter. When I was ready to return to work I decided to train as a nail technician so that I could manage the nail bar.  In December 2004 I started work in the Nail Bar and the rest as they say, is history!

What made you choose Bio Sculpture?

In my first year working at the Nail Bar I went to Professional Beauty to choose a gel system.  Having spent time at all the counters, watching demonstrations, talking with the professionals, I chose Bio Sculpture because I preferred the application/removal process, the vast choice of colours, and the overall finish and look of the gel.

How many nail techs work in your salon?

Currently, I have four full-time nail technicians.

What is your favourite Bio Sculpture colour?

Ooh that is a difficult choice, my current favourite is No. 221.

What is the most popular Bio Sculpture colour in your salon?

There are a few but if I have to name only one, I would say No. 200.

What are your top three tips for someone wanting to open a successful salon?

Be prepared to work very hard.

Customer service is key.

Never cut corners.

What is your career highlight?

Thanks to the wonderful team of nail technicians at Gelaires Nail Spa, my highlight would be having the pleasure to own the best Nail Spa in Jersey, because a salon is only as good as it's staff.
