Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifications do you need to be a salon manager?

The qualifications needed by a salon manager can vary depending on the definition of their role within the salon.

In some scenarios, a salon manager is solely responsible for the finances and administration side of things. In their role, they will also ensure the right salon insurance is in place and covers all employees.

For this role, the manager will need a relevant financial qualification. For those who pursued this career straight from school, this would include AAT, ATT or CFAB qualifications. Alternatively, a degree in accountancy will also be accepted.

On the other hand, a salon manager may take a more hands-on approach in dealing with clients and managing teams. In this scenario, they will need a qualification accredited by an industry body such as the Guild of Professional Beauty Therapists.
